The plants grow very dainty and upright and may need staking to protect themselves from strong winds. Purple Pods mature to a dark maroon. The pods are thin-skinned and almost hollow inside which makes them ideal for stuffing, but can also be incorporated into sauces, chutneys, powder, and as an additive to any spicy dish.
